Price brace sees win for Knights hockey team

6:06pm Thursday 17th November 2011

FAST starters Knutsford put visitors Prescot to the sword at Mereheath Lane at the weekend.

Shorn of skipper Mat Hodge, the Black Knights took control from the start and led when Simon Trenbrith flicked in the game’s opening goal following a short corner.

Stuart Kenyon doubled their tally soon afterwards, striking into the net from the edge of the D.

They added to their advantage when Trenbrith repeated his earlier trick to convert another short corner before the break, making it 4-0 after the restart when Johnny Price finished with power.

Prescot rallied, pulling back two goals in a spell when Knutsford relented, but the Black Knights had the final say when Price bagged his second goal of the contest.

“Winning means you’re willing to go longer, work harder and give more than anyone else,” reflected player coach Trenbrith afterwards.

Knutsford’s seconds shared the spoils with Oxton fifths following a match in which both teams had the lead.

Oxton led early in the second half only for captain Ollie Berkin to tee up Tristan Baddeley to restore parity for Knutsford shortly afterwards.

Berkin conjured the visitors’ second goal too, this time picking spotting the late arrival of Will Hewins at the back post and he made it 2-1.

Oxton pinched a point from their next attack though, converting a short corner from close range.

Bowdon sevenths became the first team to prevent Knutsford thirds winning a match this term in Division Nine South.

They came from behind too after goals from Chris Howarth and Henry Pass, from Karl Stanier’s assist, had put the visitors in the ascendancy.

Bowdon halved their arrears from a corner with five minutes left, restoring parity from a penalty flick from the contest’s last action.

Knutsford’s ladies ended a four matches losing streak in the Cheshire League’s top tier with a thrilling 6-5 success at home to Whitchurch on Saturday.

They hope to repeat the trick against Wrexham this weekend.

There was less luck for the ladies’ second string though, who lost 7-0 at Golborne Daten seconds in Division Five.
