Egerton U15s win close encounter to reach league cup's last four
10:16am Friday 12th February 2010
EGERTON Tatton U16s let slip a two-goals lead on their return to action on Sunday.
Henry Pochin put them ahead from the kick off, converting Harry Grayshon’s cross, before Ben Potterton scored direct from a free kick to make it 2-0.
Opponents Tytherington were level by the break though.
They edged ahead in the closing stages, but Harry Wackett rescued a point for the home team with three minutes left.
EGERTON U15s reached their last four of the Mid-Cheshire Youth League Cup after winning a five-goals thriller against Witton Villa at Northwich’s Moss Farm.
But they trailed at the interval after conceding a goal from a counter attack.
In the second half Egerton’s Williams lashed a shot against the bar, but Clawson was on hand to score from the rebound.
He scored his – and his team’s – second goal soon afterwards after rounding the keeper only for Witton to rally and find a leveller of their own.
Egerton were not to be denied and, after Weatherby’s header was touched on to the bar by the keeper, Clowson completed his hat-trick after pouncing on another loose ball.
JOE Cooper was on target for Egerton Tatton U15s, but they went down 2-1 to unbeaten Northwich Victoria in Division Two.
The visitors scored with their first shot on target, then in first half stoppage time James Goodwin cleared off the line to keep the Knutsford team in the contest.
But they fell further behind when Northwich scored from a penalty.
Liam Brown sent in Cooper to reduce Tatton’s arrears but, despite Tom Buckley and Joe Booth going close, they could not find an equaliser.
THERE was no cup joy for Egerton Tatton U12s after they exited the Mid-Cheshire Youth League Cup at the semi finals stage.
They struggled against higher-ranked Hartford Hawks, who ran out 9-0 victors.
“Hartford were a powerful, well-organised team,” said manager Mark Halliwell.
“Sadly we just did not turn up on the day.”
MIDDLEWICH Town U11s extended their perfect start to the season at the expense of Egerton Lions in Mid-Cheshire Youth League’s Division Three.
The two teams were evenly matched early on, but it was the home side who broke the deadlock before going on to complete a comfortable 3-0 victory.
But Egerton, who have played four matches more than their conquerors, remain top of the table.
