Hospital operations postponed due to D&V virus outbreak
2:41pm Tuesday 7th February 2012
A NUMBER of non-emergency operations have had to be postponed at Macclesfield District General Hospital.
The hospital has a reduced number of beds available following the outbreak of a diarrhoea and vomiting (D&V) virus.
A spokesman for East Cheshire NHS Trust said: “Patient safety remains our top priority and the trust would like to thank patients for their understanding during this time.”
Kath Senior, director of nursing, performance and quality, added: ‘We are experiencing pressure on services at the moment, with seasonal flu, D&V and other illnesses currently prevalent in the community.”
Ward five (orthopaedics) is currently closed to visitors due to the D&V virus and strict visiting restrictions are in place.
Ward four and six have now reopened.
“We will reopen ward five as soon as it is safe to do so,” added the spokeman.
Ms Senior said: “We apologise to those patients whose non-emergency operations have been postponed and we will be doing our very best to resume normal arrangements as soon as possible.”
