Stirring choral classics at St John’s in Knutsford

TATTON Singers present a trio of stirring religious choral works at St John’s Parish Church in Knutsford on Saturday, March 20 at 7.30pm.
Following their two highly successful concerts in the autumn the group expects to attract a large audience yet again.
In the first half the programme will feature a large-scale anthem for choir and organ by Gerald Finzi, one of the greatest English composers for voices of the 20th century, and Vaughan Williams’ magnificent Mass in G minor for double choir and soloists.
Between these two pieces, cellist Mary Dainton will play Gabriel Faure’s ever-popular Elegie.
After the interval, the powerfully evocative setting of the Requiem by the French composer Maurice Durufle.
As well as four young solo singers, the choir is joined for this concert by their recently appointed accompanist Simon Walker, organ scholar at Chester Cathedral.

The choir will hold a singing day on May 15, when allcomers are invited to spend a Saturday making music together, including singing a Mass by Schubert, followed by their summer concert on June 19, when the choir undertake a programme entitled The versatility of the Tatton Singers, with a wonderful range of pieces in several languages, from Purcell and Britten to Verdi.
